Off to Wales....WEdnesday, Oct 23, 2019

Another great breakfast by Colin (scrambled eggs by me again) then headed in separate cars for Wales.  So many roundabouts!  Took the A5 to Bangor and went by the scenic route through Betws-y-Coed.  Such beautiful scenery.

Checked into hotel and went to dinner next door at Table Table.  We will be here for 7 nights and Margaret & Colin for 5 nights.

Following the Fox with the Foxes:

Beautiful stone wall lined roadways:

I saw the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, but I wasn't quick enough to get a photo.  It is 126 ft high, 5 ft deep, and 200 years old. s a navigable aqueduct that carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen in north east Wales. The 18-arched stone and cast iron structure is for use by narrowboats and was completed in 1805 having taken ten years to design and build. :

Incredible buildings in small Welsh towns:

Can I buy a vowel please?

Through the Betws-y-Coed valley:

Chinook helicopter swooping over us in training exercises:

Gwynedd area:

We are headed to Bangor.  The term bangor is normally translated as a 'wattle fence', a reference to the enclosure erected around an early monastic site.  Perhaps this is an example of one that I saw on our trip today:

Catching up.....Friday, Oct 18--Tues, Oct 22, 2019

Friday--spent preparing for our separate trips--Ray going home for his injection and me staying in Edinburgh at the Hub then taking the train down to Coventry where Margaret & Colin will pick me up.

Saturday--UP early--pouring rain.  Ray took me to the Hub where I left my luggage.  Then I ws off to Waverley Mall then to Wetherspoons Booking Office table 3 for my scrambled eggs on toast and hot chocolate.   Shopped at Paperchase in Waverley and Heritage of Scotland then to the Edinburgh ARt Gallery sstore where I bought cards then found a great little store called Swish where I got a few gifts.

Ragamuffin had nothing that interested me.  A felted poppy chain but it was kind of strange.  Bought another Oreo cupcake at Mimi'snad some fudge with hazelnuts at Fudge House then went to Cafe Truva for a caramel cheesecake and hot chocolate.  Then at Cranachan and Crowdie found a few things.  Stopped at the Canongate Cafe--which is run by a lovely man from Turkey out of an old police box--and bought some delicious croissants.

Went through all the floors of the Museum of Childhood then back to the Hub to wait for my room and have a cup of tea.  At 2:00, got room 317 and unpacked then went downstairs for a cheese toastie and ginger ales.

Watched movies--Nocturnal Animals and Yesterday while having phone contact troubles with Ray.

Sunday--Had croissants in room then went out to buy more from the nice Turkish man in the police box at the corner of Canongate and Cranstone.  Had scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon at the City Restaurant with hot chocolate then to Victoria St. Swish.  Then to the grocer for wataer.  Tried on a hat--cloche style black felt with tartan ribbon--at a kiosk near the Tron but it was too small.

Went back to room and watched Mission Impossible--Rogue Nation and Fallout. Had McDonald's for dinner.

Monday--up early for 8:52 am train to Coventry.  Sat across table from a young girl who was reading House of Glass by Susan Fletcher.  I asked her if it was good and told her I'd read Susan Fletcher's Witch Light.  And this began a conversation that lasted 4 1/2 hours!  It was so nice to have the trip pass so quickly by talking to someone--Lisa was her name, born in 1984, married with 2 little girls, a nurse who now is a trial manager in studies related to colitis and Crohns.  After she got off at Sandwell, a lady across the aisle asked if I was from Edinburgh.  I said no and she said she thought I was since my accent was the same as the other lady.  But I told her that Lisa was from Sweden, so maybe that explains it.  Then THIS lady moved over to sit across from me and we talked and were joined by another young girl who was a teacher on holiday.  I got off at Coventry and Margaret & Colin met me on the platform.  We went to Miller & Carter Steakhouse then back to their house to rest.  Margaret fixed chicken for dinner.  I slept so well that night.

Tuesday--lovely breakfast by Colin.  Ray arrived around 2 and we went to another Miller & Carter that evening for a marvelous meal.
