Thursday, April 9--Stir Crazy on the Senior Boat

Well, I am now ready to be off this boat. I want to feel my feet on land again, to be exploring. I have already explored every inch of this ship, and I am getting stir crazy and want to be doing something other than sleeping, eating, and standing in a line--behind old people. And the people on this boat are REALLY OLD!!!! And slow moving and slow on the internet. I am usually so patient with older folks, but when the only thing to do is eat, sleep, read and get on the internet, and Mr. and Mrs. Ancient are in front of you in line and can’t decide what they want to eat or DO decide to download 50 pictures of their last vacation to show Mr. and Mrs. Old-Timer, well, my patience is wearing thin. Wow--so ready to be on with our trip. Five days is my limit on a boat without stops at ports, I guess.

Can't wait until we get to Lisbon on Sunday and can go on our shore excursion. We will be visiting Medieval Obidos, a village dating from 308 BC. We’ll also visit the Church of Santa Maria. Of course, at this point I would love to visit just about anything that is firmly rooted in the ground and has more than a ship’s length to walk around on.

I think we are four hours ahead of Atlanta and five ahead of Chicago now. We slept until 10:30 this morning, so we missed breakfast. We ended up having PIZZA for breakfast at 11. I thought this idea of slowly crossing the Atlantic so that our bodies could adjust to the time changes would be good, but it seems our bodies are steadfastly refusing to cooperate. Still reading my very interesting book, The Mind at Night by Andrea Rock, all about dreams and sleep. Fascinating. Then we napped again. What is wrong with us?!?!

Took a walk on deck. Very windy, cold, and rocky. Ray says THIS is more like the Atlantic he was expecting. Boat is definitely moving—rocking and Dutch rolling more—so I put on my seasick bracelets just to be sure, but so far, no queasiness. This is nothing like the full gale force winds and strong seas on our Alaska cruise.

Had an early dinner of spaghetti and pizza. Not our usual Thursday night beer and pizza, but apple juice and iced tea will suffice. Looking forward to the pubs in Scotland, though not especially the food. Saw 2 more whales spouting while we were eating.

Decided to stay in tonight to watch Quantum of Solace on TV. Last night as we were going to sleep, we both got this terrific craving for Waffle House! Oh, for a grilled cheese plate, double hash browns scattered light. : )

Ray has now gone up to the Lido deck to forage for food. He just called me and I joined him for salmon and pecan pie. Then went to watch sunset and to juggling comedian show that was entertaining. Off to be lulled to sleep on the waves. : )
