Well, the weather has gone from iffy to miserable. The rains are pouring, the wind is gusting, and it is tres froid (very cold). We drove to Chartres in the blustery wind-driven rain and arrived around noon.
Amazingly, our hotel is very near a MALL!!! My first chance at having a real place to shop. Ray bought one of the electric water pitcher thingies that I can't remember the name of right now--there was a special name for it in Scotland, two coffee cups--one for his coffee and one for my hot chocolate, and he has now gone, after we have found out that there are no eggs on any menu anywhere we can find for breakfast, back to the mall to buy some eggs and croissants for breakfast. He says he can hard-boil us some eggs and we can have croissants with them. Sorry France, we like our scrambled eggs for breakfast and haven't had any since we left Atlanta. Petit dejeuner is too petite and too much bread and not enough protein--usually just a coffee and orange juice and a croissant. I was trying to make sure that he gets the right kind of eggs before he left, but he kept teasing that he was going to buy ostrich eggs.
They had the neatest cooking utensil that I wish I had bought. We may have these in the US, but I haven't seen one. It was this circle with scissor-type handles attached and you put the hard-boiled egg in it and squeeze the handles and the spiky things come out and cut your egg in half. Cool! Whatcha wanna bet that Ray DOESN'T come back with one. :(
Having dinner in the restaurants cafe--they have salmon on the menu. Dinner was very interesting as the waiter did not speak English, so we did the best we could and ended up with sort of what we thought we were going to get.
No pictures today as the weather didn't allow for any good photos.
