These Days

Just thought I'd catch you up on what's going on around here.  Still lots of rain--so much so that the farmers around here have lost $40 million in crops already.  The news said that it may take 10 years for them to make up what they lost this year and that many of them will be getting out of the farming business because of it.  It reminded me this morning of the saying, "If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise."  Wel,, the creek has risen A LOT this summer.

Oh, and we had an earthquake Wednesday morning at 3am!  It was onlya 2.1, but it was centered very close to our house--in Hendersonville in Valley Hill area.  There have been 5 earthquakes in this area in the last few days.  Who knew?!

Ray has finished the foundation of the house addition and has gotten it to a point where we can leave it for our trip.  I'm having a quiet weekend while Ray is off running the Disneyland Half-Marathon on Sunday with his niece, Leslie, so it's a chance for me to catch up on errands and cleaning and getting things ready for our travel adventures.  We realized the other day that we can't really ever call these trips a vacation because we aren't relaxing.  They are truly adventures.  This time we'll be starting out in London, then on to Glastonbury, then Edinburgh, then Paris, then Aix-en-Provence, then Lausanne, Switzerland, then Zurich fro which we'll fly home.  We'll be seeing old friends and taking two overnight train trips--can't wait--and visiting places that feel like home and places that we haven't gotten to see enough of on past trips.  This will probably be our last trip over, so we hope to get to see everything we can.

Margaret & Colin sent me a tea towel commemorating the birth of Little George, son of Prince William & Princess Kate--I was so excited to get it.

Got all my big errands done yesterday so today it was just filling the car with gas and extra grocery shopping.  Last night I had rotisserie salmon and lemon orzo pasta salad from Fresh Market--I find that I eat healthier when Ray is out of town for some reason.  I also ate half of my tiny mini Key Lime tart also from there.

This morning I bought chicken so that I could make Szechuan Chicken for myself.  I'll half it and have half tonight and half tomorrow.  Yum!

I went to breakfast at our favorite place--Dutch Cupboard--this morning.  Had my regular Saturday morning meal of Belgian Waffle, scrambled eggs, and bacon.  Even after spending 2 weeks in Scotland on my own, I still find it strange to eat at a sit-down place alone.  So I people watch.  All the waitresses came up to say hi and ask where Ray was and ask about our trip and tell me that they'll miss me.

Funny thing happened.  One of the waitresses, Joy, asked a gentleman sitting at the table next to me where his friend was.  The man asked her if she had her cellphone on her and got her to call the man at home and tell him he was supposed to be there 15 minutes ago.  So we live in a tiny enough town that if you don't show up for breakfast at your regular restaurant, they'll call you and ask you where you are!

Stay tuned for more on our trip and hopefully some good photos of fabulous places.
