Lingering Snow

It's still very pretty outside, even though Ray has shoveled part of the driveway and the snowplow guy has done the rest and did the roads in our community.  Looking out the window this morning, there were thousands of tiny sparkles on the surface of the snow.  It was beautiful.

We were finally able to get out today and went for pizza.  I also had to check on "my" ponies and Clydesdales at the farms along the way.  They all seemed fine.

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

Sparkles in the snow--the middle one looks like stars!

The bridge we have to cross to leave our community--still very slippery:

Well-traveled roads on our way to dinner, but these stretches of road are in the shade:

Still Snowing

Well, the forecasters weren't too far off.  We awoke this morning to 10 inches of beautiful white snow.  And it's STILL snowing now at 10am.  I went out to have a walk around and it's the soft fluffy kind of snow that I love.  My boots sunk into the drifts up to their tops with a nice squeaky sound!

The lake is gorgeous with the old mill on the other side.  Because of all the snow, the lake looks MUCH closer to our house than usual.  The birds are so happy that Ray is keeping their feeders stocked--they look very appreciative just after he fills it, flying up and landing and looking at the new level of sunflower seeds with amazement.  (I know, I know, how do you see amazement on a bird's face, but I do.)

Strange plant that now looks like it's from Doctor Who:

And now for a few shots of my friends, the birds:

This one is after he saw me in the window and he seemed to think he was hiding behind this branch:

Land of Ice and Snow -- February 12, 2014

Just wanted to post a few photos and videos of our latest weather.  By mid-day, you could not tell the difference between the grass and the road.  By the end of this day, we had over 6 inches of snow with a further possible 8 inches predicted for overnight.  If this happens, I will post more photos in the morning, once I get over the shock!

Speaking of shock--we parked right behind this van the other day at Home Depot.  For one brief second, I fell for it.

When it first started snowing, it made the bushes in the front yard look like snow flowers had grown in them.

One of the interesting little fat birds that come to lunch at our birdfeeders

The two trees out front, that I think are pear or cherry trees, must have almost 20 Mr. & Mrs. Cardinals in them at any one time.  Here is one of them.

This morning before it snowed all day

The lake and the cardinal:

This is my kitchen window where I can watch all the goings-on of the birds that visit--notice the cardinal that jumps up from the ground near the end--they seemed to be concerned about the snow & approached the birdfeeders very cautiously today--not in their usual way of taking turns.

Videos taken later in the day when the snow was heavier:
