Well, living in Florida has been very interesting. Still get surprised by the geckos running about, especially the teeny tiny ones that scoot across my path. Still very HOT here and not much rain, but the mornings are wonderfully cool and enjoyable.
Having a difficult time getting used to Comcast TV instead of satellite TV. This form of “Tivo” thru Comcast is NOT user-friendly. And evidently the button you can push to do a season pass is not to be found on my remote, so programming has been quite a chore, especially with the new TV season starting.
Speaking of TV, I can’t get over the News anchormen down here. Two of them, especially. The first time I saw them, I was astounded—they looked just like Muppets!!! In their profile pictures online, they are smiling and it isn’t so obvious, but when you watch them talk and they never crack a smile and have such interesting faces, well, I can’t see anything but a runaway Muppet.
People move in and out frequently, or maybe it’s just the time of year that people usually move. We had a neighbor next door, until this past weekend, who we would hear talking on his cellphone often about being behind on child-support. The people who lived across the breezeway when we moved in—we haven’t seen them since. Notes put in the door by management—newsletters, etc.—are crumbled at the door, but we never see anyone. Kind of like the strange cat people in the “Barefoot in the Park” movie. At least we only have 3 flights of stairs here. The new neighbors next door are 3 college guys. I haven’t met them, but Ray says they look kind of geeky, so maybe there won’t be a noise problem. They’ve been here for a week now and no problems at all.
A few weeks ago, we drove over to St. George Island--a tiny island east of here that we hope to camp on sometime soon. Very pretty houses here--one that looked like a log cabin and one like a lighthouse. We found a cute little place for seafood called Captain Snook's.
I have spent my summer fighting allergies and sinus problems. Ever since we began packing up the house, my dust allergies flared up. Finally, I gave in and went to the Urgent Care place here in Panama City beach on Saturday and found that I had a severe sinus infection. One cortisone shot and a round of antibiotics later and I feel SO much better.
We went for pizza last week and then over to the beach to watch the sunset. So pretty and much less crowded. Still can’t being myself to buy the pier pass that costs $90 per year when there is a path down to the beach right beside it. We plan to bring a picnic dinner down here soon and set up ours beach chairs and have a relaxing meal.
Getting ready for the closing on the house in Peachtree City that we hope happens on Monday. Ray will be SO happy not to have to make that drive back and forth to cut the grass and clean the pool anymore. Also getting ready for birthday month—October, when it seems just about EVERYONE in our families has their birthday. Seriously, 8 birthdays.
Then we are doing what Ray calls our “pick-up” trip to Southern France, Spain, and Belgium. Like a director has to go back to redo shots for a movie, we have to go back to retake shots that I no longer have for 2 reasons: 1) on our long stay in Europe, once we reached France, my camera had a life of its own and changed itself from high-definition to low-definition at its own whim, and 2) the fact that about 2 weeks of my pictures took off with the thief that broke into our car in Southern France and stole the laptop. So we just have to go back!
Have to go now to catch the super unreal fiery sunset from our patio. : )
