I'm back!!! Well, the three week trip to see Katie and visit with everyone turned into an 8 week trip when we found out that surgery WAS possible, so I stayed on and helped Katie recuperate. I am very happy to report that she is doing very well and is able to eat a much more varied diet of healthy fruits and vegetables than she ever thought possible. So yay!!! I am so thankful.
I checked in for my flight online and found that they had oversold the flight, but it turned out not to be a problem at all. I was thankful I changed my seat to 20B as it was on a WINDOW exit row and had tons of legroom AND a space for my carryon underneath the seat in front of me. Too keyed up to sleep, so I had to settle for 20 minutes or so. Plane landed over an hour early! So I found myself waiting for Ray to arrive rather than the other way around.
I ended up being descended upon by 9 policemen bearing arms--HUGE automatic machine gun type arms--and a policewoman with a drug-sniffing dog, so I had a momentary jolt of the heart, fearing that he would take the scent of my flaxseeds (that I mix with orange juice for a healthy drink) as drugs of some kind, but no, he just sniffed and went on his way--along with the mini-army.
Monorail connecting north and south terminals was broken, so had to take shuttle, then train to St. Pancras, then walk to King's Cross for train to Edinburgh. National Express train very clean, and we had a table to ourselves. Took taxi to apartment that Ray had cleaned thoroughly in preparation for my homecoming. He even had an arrangement of what must be over 4 dozen pink carnations waiting for me. They are gorgeous and smell so good. It has turned so cold here. It is 62 degrees, and with the temps in Atlanta in the 90s, that seems very cold to me.
So exhausted so unpacking may have to wait. KFC couldn't wait--popcorn chicken--so now I am Skypeing with Katie, texting and emailing with Laura, and settling in. I surely do miss getting to see my girls and Lincoln and Luanne. I have to get out of the habit of just picking up the phone to call. That could cost me a small fortune!
Hopefully I will sleep very late tomorrow then go for breakfast at Morrison's. Then unpacking and seeing some more of Edinburgh.
