Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia

One day while in Hilton Head, Ray & I visited the Bonaventure Cememtery in Savannah. This is the one that was mentioned as being where the main character from "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil" was buried, although he was in fact buried elsewhere. The bird girl statue has been removed for safekeeping, so we went in search of the grave of Johnny Mercer, the singer, a famous resident here at Bonaventure. This cemetery was kind of spooky with all the Spanish Moss hanging down--I can only imagine how spooky it must be a night. It is said to be haunted, and I don't doubt it one bit.

(I just found out that John Muir slept here in Bonaventure Cemetery one night while hiking on his way to the Gulf from Wisconsin.)

December 28, 2010 -- January 17, 2011

We had a very busy holiday this year. Katie & Russ and their puppy, Otis, came down to the beach for a visit. We had so much fun—playing with Otis, eating, and talking.

When they headed off to spend a few days with Russ's mom, we headed to Hilton Head Island to spend the week with Ray’s family—his cousins Judi, Jackie & Tom, Janice & Jack, Joe, and his Aunt Lou & Uncle Bob. What a week it was—hanging out with everyone, eating and eating and eating the most delicious food, and me learning to play cards—Hand & Foot. Such fun!

Then we headed to DisneyWorld for Ray to run the Marathon. He did a great time—3 hours 52 minutes—then it was 4 days of just having fun in the parks. We even visited the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal, but we weren’t that impressed. It was freezing cold that day and the park itself is so small, that with schools still out, it was so crowded you could barely move around. We will try it out again when we go back next time. After Disney, we drove to North Carolina to check out possible new living places. We visited Hickory and Wilkesboro and Mount Airy—where its looked like Andy’s patrol car was parked on the street—and then went over to Wilmington to see if we would like the beach there. Yes, we did, but it is SO much more expensive than living inland, so I think we will get an apartment in Hickory. It will be our base for exploring the area from Asheville up to Mount Airy, in search of our new home.

There were some very nice ones—Mosteller Mansion Apartments that said they would hold a 2 bedroom/2 bath with a sunroom for us is we wanted it. The clubhouse is the actual Mosteller Mansion that a husband built for his wife before they died. It has an indoor heated pool and we can also get a garage here. Wrightsville Beach, where we stayed, is gorgeous, though, so I can see us vacationing there often.
