Flood Photos

The French Broad River, which runs just past here, has flooded, leaving many homeowners with lakes instead of yards and farm fields.

Camelot?

I know that I’ve said before that living in our little cove is like living in a bubble, but I wasn’t serious until this morning.

We did have a rushing creek that went way beyond its borders 2 evenings ago, but nothing like the areas just outside our cove that had ALL of their lands flood heavily, even right up to some of the houses, railroad tracks and road edges. It was amazing to watch and HEAR the water going by our house. It created a deep groove in the dirt road that runs by our house that the county is repairing this morning.

But today’s weather is just strange. I look out the windows and see nothing but sunshine and clear blue skies. The lake in the distance looks back to its normal size, the creek is running normally. BUT on the news I hear that the windchill is in the single digits, the high temperature for tonight will be 16, and schools HERE in Henderson County are closed. Only 2 lanes of I-26 were open this morning because of snow and ice. All schools in counties just north of us are closed, too. What is going on? It is heavily snowing just north of us. HEAVILY! And yet here we sit in our little cove with blue skies and sunshine! I don’t understand. I actually would love to see some snow. I thought when we moved here that I would.

Perhaps fairies live in this cove and have put a magical spell upon it. An even better spell than was on Camelot?

A law was made a distant moon ago here: July and August cannot be too hot. And there's a legal limit to the snow here In Camelot. The winter is forbidden till December And exits March the second on the dot. By order, summer lingers through September In Camelot. Camelot! Camelot! I know it sounds a bit bizarre, But in Camelot, Camelot That's how conditions are. The rain may never fall till after sundown. By eight, the morning fog must disappear. In short, there's simply not A more congenial spot For happily-ever-aftering than here In Camelot. Camelot! Camelot! I know it gives a person pause, But in Camelot, Camelot Those are the legal laws. The snow may never slush upon the hillside. By nine p.m. the moonlight must appear. In short, there's simply not A more congenial spot For happily-ever-aftering than here In Camelot.

I’m beginning to wonder. It is truly strange to think that just beyond the borders of our subdivision, winter may be raging. The high today here is supposed to be 29 with windchills of 9. BRRRRRR But it’s warm and cozy and sunshiney here in Willow Creek Farms. Photos of conditions outside and inside “Camelot,” First three are just above Hendersonville. Last photo is of our front lawn this morning. :-)

The video is of our creek:
