Fall has definitely arrived, and, at times, I think we may have skipped straight over into Winter. The low this morning was 32 degrees with a brisk 30 mph wind blowing. And the colors are amazingly brilliant.
We drove north a bit the other day to find Scott Mountain. I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but I think my ancestors came from this area—my reasoning: The area in North Georgia where they settled was informally called Buncombe. My father remembers this term from his childhood referring to a small area near Cedartown & Rockmart. So imagine my surprise when we come to look at the Asheville area and find that it is in Buncombe County & that there is a Scott Mountain right here!
So we drove up Gaston Mountain Road to find the lovely community of Biltmore Lakes and we turn down a road to get a good view of Scott Mountain & there is a gated community called Scott’s Ridge with the fall-colored Scott Mountain towering over it. Wow! So pretty.
The views from here were amazing and it was so neat to think of my own ancestors settling here on Scott Mountain then some of them moving on to Georgia & taking the name of Buncombe with them.
